Sunshine – NY – ADOPTED

Update 8-17-2012: Sunshine has been adopted! Sunshine is a sweet and sassy, deaf, three-year-old female rescued from a high-kill shelter in NYC and being fostered in Unadilla, NY. Picked up off the streets as a stray and suspected “throw away mama”, the once-emaciated and sick girl is now a thriving, buff but compact, 40 lb. comedienne with a zest for life.

Sunshine, a petite 40 pound pitbulll mix was rescued from a high-kill shelter in New York City and is starting life anew! People would never guess that Sunshine is deaf, but don’t let that stop you because it doesn’t stop her! Sunshine is very alert and curious about everything around her.

She is working on some basic obedience skills and would flourish with someone who can guide her firmly and with love. She responds readily to the hand signal for “sit” and has 100% accuracy in sitting for treats. Sunshine loves to play as much as she loves to snuggle. As long as she has people around her, she’s one happy gal!

Sunshine loves play time and going for long, brisk walks. She is just as content curling up by someone’s feet or in their lap for long stretches. Sunshine needs to be the only animal in your home. She is is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on all her shots. Application, contract and adoption fee required. Sunshine is currently being fostered in Unadilla, NY.  A Word From Sunshine!

Now a word from Sunshine herself:  ”People don’t even guess that I’m deaf! I’m very alert and curious about everything around me. And bonus…! Barking dogs, loud thunder, things falling, sirens…they don’t bother me! I’m already working with my foster family and friends on some signs.”

“Are you at home during the day? Are you retired but active? Work at home? We might make a really good team. I would be happy to curl up at your feet or in your lap for long stretches alternating with some fun play time and long, brisk walks. I just want to be close! I promise you my loyalty and love in return.”

We just saw sunshine and WOW what a cutie !! we would love to talk to you about adopting her if in fact she is still available. we do live in an apartment but we also live on a barrier island with lots of room to run and take lots of walks. i forgot to mention that our O.D. was deaf as well. so we do know first hand that deaf dogs do rock. We sincerely hope to hear from sunshine and maybe she can tell a little about herself. with sincere hops, susan and jack
