Gunnar – OH – ADOPTED

Meet sweet and handsome Gunnar. Thanks to Heather Gates-Rusher for driving to the shelter in WV from OH to pull Gunnar when we put a plea out for someone to save him. Heather told me over the phone that Gunnar is just this cool laid back 8-10 month old male wire coated boxer. Gunnar is a Deaf wire-coated, white, male (neutered) Boxer. He was found stray in late June and spent two weeks in the love & care of the Roane Shelter in Spencer, WV. He was taken into foster care July 10, 2012, and is currently located in Cutler, OH, just a short drive from Parkersburg, WV and Athens & Marietta, OH.

The purpose of this page is to find Gunnar a forever home. Potential adopters will be thoroughly screened, and our standards for adopters are high. Transport can be arranged for the right home, but it will not be executed via air cargo.

Adoption application forms will be uploaded here ASAP. Contact Heather at jrtmom3274@att.net

  1. Thank you Christina! Gunnar is a sweetie who deserves the best home!

  2. How is he with other animals? Cats other dogs? Interested!

  3. He is GREAT with other dogs. I have a 12 pound JRT who is 15 (Deaf), all the way up to a 105 pound Bernese Mountain Dog (hearing). He gets along with everyone, and when my seniors (Robin, a nearly 15yo Dalmatian & a nearly 12yo BC) just say NO to puppy craziness, he submits. He is actually very submissive. I’ll have to try to get some video of him groveling on his shoulder, showing his belly & trying to get my Berner to play.

He met three cats at the shelter. I guess the girls there had introduced him before, but they invited me to see for myself. (I can’t stress enough how awesome this rural, municipal shelter & itspeople are!) If you search Roane Shelter on FB & look for the little tortoise shell kitty named Tootles, she is everyone’s best friend. Coolest cat EVER. He wasn’t as interested in engaging play with them as he is with dogs, but he wasn’t aloof either. He sniffed & wagged at the two kitties, and let Tootles rub all over this legs, neck and face.
